Alonzo Hauser (1909-1988)
Alonzo Hauser was one of Minnesota’s most important and prolific sculptors. He founded the Art Department at Macalester College in 1945, and taught at the Layton School of Art, Milwaukee, Carton College and the University of Minnesota School of Architecture.
He attained a national reputation for his figurative sculpture and had numerous shows in prestigious museums and galleries throughout the nation during his 50 year career. He carved stone and wood, modeled sculpture, and produced sculpture in many different mediums including plaster, terr cotta, bronze and lost wax bronzes. His output of two-dimensional art is quite staggering with dozens of sketch book; and drawing and watercolors numbering in the thousands.
His work is in the collection of the Walker Art Center, the Minnesota Museum of American Art, the Minnesota Historical Society, the Wustum Museum in Racine, Wisconsin, and many other galleries and private collections throughout the country.
