Clifford Moen (1926 - 2016)

Cliff Moen was born in Minneapolis on September 11, 1926.  He graduated from Roosevelt High School in Minneapolis and attended the Minneapolis School of Art and the University of Minnesota, where he focused on painting and art history.

After traveling extensively in the US and Western Europe, he settled in the woods along the Mississippi River in Hastings, Minnesota. There, he and his wife Barbara raised their three boys. He had a passion for his family, art, and travel.  He became a nationally known artist and from his home and studio in Hastings, he would paint and ship artwork to exhibits all over the country.

According to Moen, “To filter nature through one’s own sensibilities, to transmit one’s feelings and impressions of life to canvas, is at once a challenge and a great joy.”

Cliff Moen passed away at the age of 89 on January 3, 2016.
