Gerald J. Korte (1928 - 2010)

Dr. Gerald “Jerry” J. Korte was born April 29, 1928 in Freeport, MN to Bernard and Helen (Schwieters) Korte. He married Jane Raymond on November 26, 1953.  He served in the United States Navy from 1946 to 1948. Jerry received his Bachelor of Science degree from St. Cloud State University in 1951 and Master of Science in 1955. He received his Doctorate in Art Education from the University of Kansas in 1969.

 

Jerry taught in the public schools in Melrose, Cloquet, Ely (Community College), and South St. Paul before joining the faculty at the SCSU Thomas Gray Laboratory School. He became a fulltime member of the SCSU Art Department in 1964, where he taught until his retirement in 1986. In addition to teaching Elementary Education majors, Jerry taught Art Education methods for all levels, advised graduate students in Art Education, and taught watercolor.

 
While Jerry distinguished himself as a professor of art education, he is better known to the general public for his painting skills and his prodigious watercolor workshop schedule.

 

Jerry’s art works garnered him many awards, appearances in group shows, juried shows, one-person shows, and Artist in Residence program, Isle Royale National Park. He was a signature member of the Midwest Watercolor Society serving as Board member from 1987 to 1995, Vice President/President elect, President; and President emeritus.
