John Beauchamp (1925 - 2019)

John M. Beauchamp was born in Mankato, Minnesota in 1925, but spent most of his childhood in Minnesota Lake, Minnesota.  At a young age, he learned to appreciate the beauty in nature and spent many hours developing his interest in photography.  He attended grammar school in Minnesota Lake and high school at Loyola Catholic School in Mankato. 

 

John attended the University of Minnesota and graduated with a B.A. degree in 1949 and an M.F.A. degree in 1954.  He went on to have a lengthy career as a professional artist with works held in the collections of the Walker Art Center in Minneapolis and the Whitney Museum of American Art in New York City.  He was also an Instructor in the Art Department at the University of Minnesota from 1957 - 1959.

Minnesota State Fair: 1951, 1958;  Walker Art Center: Biennial of Paintings and Prints (Purchase Award and traveling exhibition), 1951;  Biennial of Paintings, Prints and Sculptures: Invitational Exhibition, Third Award and traveling exhibition, 1958;  Whitney Museum of American Art, New York: Annual of Contemporary American Painting, 1951, 1952;  Minneapolis Institute of Arts: Minnesota Biennial, 1959;  University Gallery, University of Minnesota: One-man exhibition, 1960.

John loved the fine arts and spent many hours with friends enjoying poetry and music.  He fondly remembered his time spent in Chicago, New York City and Paris France and recalled in great detail the activities he enjoyed in each city. 

 

John passed away on May 28, 2019, at the age of 94.
