Karen Ask
Karen Ask is a local artist whose current focus is painting. The images that come to her are inspired by such things as a degrading earth, mysterious kitties and a sense of place in the subconscious. Exploration of abstract surface texture and personal symbolism such as roses are incorporated into her work. Karen sees art as a conduit by which the observer is offered a connection between the seen and unseen.
Karen received her BFA from the University of Minnesota in 1991 and studied under David Feinberg and Wayne Potratz. She also studied ceramics in the University of River Falls programs. In addition to painting, she has concentrated on 3D throughout the years working with handbuilt ceramics, metal work and assemblage, including jewelry. In 2022, she had an 8- month artist residency in the rainforest of Hawaii where she produced a body of work on paper, including a series of original abstract kitty images.
Karen has participated in local and regional venues, including art crawls, gallery and community shows in Wisconsin and Minnesota. She was a member and resident of the Tilsner Art Cooperative. She currently lives and works in Eagan, Minnesota where she participates in the local arts community.
