Edwin Nooleen (1889 - 1964)
Edwin Nooleen lived in Minneapolis and Onamia, MN. He farmed near Mille Lacs Lake in Minnesota and was a builder by trade.
He produced wood carvings, oils, drawings and lithographs. The Minnesota Historical Society owns seven of his pieces from 1937 – 1942.
Although self-taught, Nooleen was no amateur. He produced a large body of work in the style of the WPA. In 1989, the Minnesota Historical Society Quarterly used his 1937 “Farm Auction” piece on its cover.
He visited the South and was a social realist, often depicting a common person working.
